Cluny Women’s College Celebrates Bhanu Smriti Diwas and 35th Nepali Language Recognition Day on 19 August 2026

The Nepali Department of Cluny Women’s College, Kalimpong, celebrated Bhanu Smriti Diwas and the 35th Nepali Language Recognition Day on 19 August 2026.

The programme was graced by Dr. Harka Bahadur Chhetri, former MLA of Kalimpong, as Chief Guest and renowned novelist Mr. Chuden Kabimo, author of Faatsung and Urmaal and recipient of the Yuva Sahitya Akademi Award and Madan Puraskar, as Guest of Honour. Principal Sister Dr. Pushpa Michael presided over the programme.

The celebration featured lamp lighting, floral tribute to Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, collective Ramayana recitation, cultural performances and poetry recitation. Prof. Meherman Subba, Head of the Nepali Department, highlighted the significance of the occasion, while Mr. Chuden Kabimo was felicitated for his contribution to Nepali literature.

The programme also featured inspiring addresses on the history and importance of the Nepali language, the language movement, and the value of developing a strong reading culture among students. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dilu Darjee.
