Cluny Women’s College, Kalimpong, in collaboration with the Department of Nepali, observed World Sanskrit Day on 29 August 2026, with the participation of Principal Dr. Sr. Pushpa Michael, faculty members and students.
The programme featured the recitation of the Sanskrit Dhyeya Mantra, presentation of original poems in Sanskrit, Nepali and Hindi, and an open interaction on the preservation and promotion of Sanskrit. Mr. Subash Shrestha, Faculty Member, Department of Nepali, recited a Sanskrit poem and spoke on the richness and significance of the language, including its contribution to the Vedas and Upanishads. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Mangar, Faculty Member, spoke on the relevance of Sanskrit Diwas and the need for its preservation, promotion, use and study, highlighting its profound influence on other languages and literature.
The programme was anchored by Sharmila Sarki and Elisibha Sarki, with Mr. Meherman Subba, Head of the Department of Nepali, delivering the vote of thanks. The celebration concluded with an awareness rally from the College campus to 8th Mile, promoting the preservation and continued study of Sanskrit.
